Urban conflict escalates in Gaza and three Israeli soldiers have been killed by fire from one of their own tanks. 

There have been fierce street battles in Gaza with reports of another 18 Palestinians being killed.  Hospitals are having difficulty coping with casualties.

Journalists are not allowed into Gaza so our correspondent Dominic Waghorn reports from the Israel-Gaza border. 

Foreign Affairs editor Tim Marshall is in Jerusalem from where he assesses the diplomatic efforts to bring about a ceasefire.

Later today, a United Nations security council meeting in Washington will discuss the Gaza situation. Our correspondent Robert Nisbet will be there.

The economy is high on the agenda again as latest retail figures and house price reports show no sign of things improving.  We will interview experts, union leaders and retail executives through the day. Woolworths finally close the last of their stores today.

Gas supplies across Europe are being disrupted as Russia tells gas giant Gazprom to cut supplies sent via Ukraine. It could mean supplies cut by three quarters.  Our Europe correspondent Greg Milam will reportv on developments.

We also report on the six year old and five year old who wanted to elope from Germany to Africa to get married.  They were picked up at an airport after security officials became suspicious when spotting them in sun glasses and carrying a lilo.
