Speeding motorists could be banned after just two offences under new measures being unveiled today. 

Roads Minister Jim Fitzpatrick has told Sky News there are also plans to introduce harsher penalties for people driving under the influence of drugs.

We have reaction from road safety campaigners, police and motorists.

The latest spending figures are due this morning and they're expected to show High Street sales slowing dramatically. 

Several major store chains are resorting to emergency measures by cutting prices.  Our Business editor Michael Wilson will look at that story.

A British scientist has developed a technique to detect fingerprints on bullets - it could help US detectives solve one of their most high profile murder cases.  We will interview the scientist live at 11.15am.

North of England correspondent Gerard Tubb will be at the Shannon Matthews' alleged abduction trial and will bring all the main points live.

And we are in Dubai where we ask: is the UAE cushioned from the world's econmic problems?

It would seem as the world's most expensive resort is about to open there. 

Our Showbiz correspondent Steve Hargrave will report live amid the glitz as top stars from around the world arrive for the opening including Kylie Minogue who we will interview live at 2.30pm. 

Organisers also promise a firework display at 8.30pm UK time which will rival the Beijing Olympics display.
