[tx: Wednesday 11 November, 06.00]

On Wednesday 11 November, Sky News will pay tribute to the men and women who have died while fighting in the Afghanistan War. As the battle to remove the Taliban regime and destroy the Al-Qaeda organisation enters its ninth year, the death toll for British troops now stands at 230.

As political and public opposition to the war continues to grow, Sky News will conduct a series of debates throughout the day, culminating in Martin Stanford’s show at 19.00 on Wednesday 11, dedicated to getting to the bottom of the topic’s key issues: is the Afghan war defending our freedoms here, and would withdrawing troops now betray the people of the region?

Sky News will also host an interactive news wall, presented both online and in the studio, containing photos of each individual soldier killed in action. It will reveal facts about where they were from and where and how they died.

Throughout the day, friends and families of those who lost their lives will be discussing memories of their loved ones and how they feel at the sacrifices they made for the security of our country. Tributes to the soldiers will be expressed both on the news channel and on skynews.com

Stuart Ramsay, Sky News’ Chief Correspondent, will be in Afghanistan covering memorial services in Helmand Province on this poignant day of remembrance. Reporting teams across the UK will also focus on the Armed Forces memorial in Alrewas, Staffordshire, the service at Westminster Abbey and the two-minute silence from both Trafalgar Square in London and Castle Square in Swansea.
