North of England Correspondent Gerard Tubb won a prestigious Bafta nomination and was shortlisted for the Royal Television Society Scoop of the Year and a New York Festivals Award.

A Sky News Correspondent since 1993, Gerard's contacts help him to break major stories in the north - from being first with news of Richard Hammond’s high-speed crash in a jet-powered car, to revealing on air that kidnap victim Shannon Matthews had been found alive before the police had time to formally identify her.

A specialist at exclusive in-depth investigations, Gerard has unearthed evidence which has subsequently been used in two criminal trials and prompted the retirement of a senior government minister.

Gerard won his Bafta nomination for his coverage of the Canoe Man story - the tale of former prison officer, John Darwin, who faked his death in Seaton Carew.

Detectives were baffled as to why Darwin returned from Panama and handed himself in - but Gerard's investigation uncovered his masterplan which explained everything.

When Darwin’s wife, Anne, appeared at Teesside Crown Court on fraud charges, the documentary evidence Gerard had found was handed to the jury as proof that she was a willing partner – and the jury promptly found her guilty.

Married, with two teenage children, Gerard dabbles in computer programming, running, and vintage tractors.
