Vicky Hawthorne
Vicki joined Sky News in 2008 as Ireland Correspondent. In 2009 she reported on the dissident republican terrorist murders of two soldiers and a police officer, and on the visit to Northern Ireland of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She has also reported on the political talks leading up to the Hillsborough Agreement in February 2010.
Vicki began her career as a freelance radio news reporter, mainly working for Downtown Radio in Belfast. Vicki progressed from Downtown to working for ITN in Belfast as a video journalist, working on stories such as the Holy Cross dispute for ITV national news.
After two years Vicki went to work on GMTV regional news in Belfast in 2002, producing packages and reporting on breaking news stories.
In 2005 Vicki became a freelance journalist once more, this time working mainly for UTV, BBC Radio Ulster and Citybeat Radio. During this period Vicki also worked on an Italian current affairs documentary about the murder of Robert McCartney outside a Belfast bar in 2005.
In September 2005, Vicki moved to work for U105, a new radio station in Belfast and was part of the team that developed the news output as well as researching, presenting and producing the news bulletins. From 2006-2008 Vicki worked for UTV as a Senior Reporter before moving to Sky News as Ireland Correspondent in October 2008. During her first few weeks with Sky News she travelled the length of Ireland reporting on stories as diverse as a massive drugs find on a yacht in the South West, the murder of a Rugby player in Limerick and a man in Co. Offaly who believes he is a distant relative of Barack Obama.
Vicki is married and lives in Northern Ireland. In her spare time she enjoys walks on the beach with her Golden Retriever, travelling and eating out.
