Katie Stallard

Katie is Sky News’ West of England Correspondent.  Since taking up the post in 2008 she has covered stories across the South West from the Hannah Foster murder trial in Hampshire, to the mass stranding of dolphins in Cornwall, from evacuation by air ambulance in the snow on Dartmoor, to the repatriation of fallen military personnel through Wootton Bassett.

Her most high-profile case to date has been the Vanessa George nursery paedophile ring, which she covered first in Plymouth and then through the courts in Bristol, culminating in breaking all 37 guilty pleas live, and an exclusive investigation into the prevalence of female paedophilia.

Katie joined Sky in 2003 as a runner after undertaking work experience in University holidays. She progressed to showbiz researcher, then producer, working on Sky’s coverage of The Oscars, Cannes and the Golden Globes, before a stint as a reporter on the World News overnight programme, and finally joining the rota in 2006 as a London-based reporter, where she covered the murder trial of Sally Ann Bowman, the Mills-McCartney divorce, and the ill-fated opening of Heathrow Terminal 5.

Katie has a first class honours degree in English from University College London, where she first became involved with student journalism, becoming President of the University TV station and winning a National Student TV Award for her programme about the invasion of Iraq.

Katie is from the Black Isle in the North of Scotland.  In her spare time she goes running, plays tennis, and rides and competes her horse, an ex-racehorse called Jetty.
