Tom Parmenter
Tom joined the Manchester bureau as North of England Correspondent in 2006. He has since reported on the biggest stories across the north of England and beyond.
He gained exclusive access to the street gangs of Liverpool following the shooting of schoolboy Rhys Jones. Elsewhere he has covered the “disappearance” of Dewsbury schoolgirl Shannon Matthews, riots and sectarian murders in Northern Ireland and even spent a day delivering 25 live reports on the state of Wayne Rooney’s foot shortly before the last World Cup.
Well used to reporting in all sorts of weather, Tom was recently part of the Sky News team that outpaced their rivals on the terrible Cumbria floods. He was the only journalist reporting live from the centre of Cockermouth the morning after the town was overwhelmed by a ‘once in a thousand year’ flood.
Keen to push technical boundaries he helped pilot a gadget in a rucksack that allowed “on the move” live broadcasting during the G20 riots in London, he also regularly files video from his mobile to supplement Sky’s coverage both on TV and the web.
Overseas Tom has reported from Thailand after the Tsunami and from Pakistan after the earthquake in 2005.
